Health Care

To find an entry level position in the Health Care sector, a job seeker should have the equivalent of a secondary school diploma in Ontario and several months of on-the-job training.

Internationally trained health care professionals should have as much information as possible about the Canadian work environment, the structure of the Health Care system and other things that are unique to Canada.

For example, nurses in Ontario are generalists, while foreign-trained nurses are often specialists, making it difficult for internationally-trained nurses to enter the profession at the same level.

Employers express a strong preference for hiring professionals who are familiar with the social and cultural context of the Canadian workplace.

Volunteering is considered one of the fastest ways to enter the workforce.
