Health Care

Internationally trained medical graduates face significant difficulties.

The lengthy and complex licensing process means that it often takes several years to complete all of the required steps.

The greatest barrier to professional integration is the limited number of residency positions available. Internationally trained graduates may be advised to do some retraining in the health care field so that they are able find employment in some other capacity other than as a physician.

For example those ITPs who are not allowed to deliver medical services in Canada without accreditation can apply their previous work experience in clinical research.

To become fully licensed to practice medicine in Ontario, ITP should contact the provincial association for details on licensure procedure.
